The Menace Of Power Outage In Nigeria

Levi Simeon
For Decades, Nigerian has been suffering from what is called “Unstable power supply” and because the government has provided us with no other option, Nigerians have chose to accept the condition and continue with their daily lives. Meanwhile the government goes ahead in making billions from the returns they get from the consumers of electricity who barely get value for their money.

The federal government established NEPA decades ago and recently changed the power supply organization to PHCN; since the establishment of PHCN, the rate of power outage has tripled with prolonged hours of darkness.

The situation has become unbearable for the citizens and even to foreign investors. If you are a foreigner who intend to start up an industry, the best option is to rely on giant power generators. This is bad for business and also gives business and the people of Nigeria bad orientation. One of the dangers we face with this electricity problems is air pollution, due to the carbon monoxide that comes out from this generators.

Due to the menace, 98% of Nigerians has fall back to generators and it is very dangerous for a developing country to rely of house hold generators for power supply. Nigerians are clamoring to stop paying PHCN bills since they do not receive the service they deserve.
